Karen Stintz announces resignation as TTC chair to run for mayor

TORONTO – One of Toronto’s most high profile councillors has announced she is giving up her seat as the Toronto Transit Commision (TTC) chair to prepare and run for the mayor’s seat next year.

The Ward 16 councillor issued a letter to the city clerk on Friday to step down effective February 22.

Stintz made it clear in October her desire to enter the mayoral race.

Despite giving up the chair position, Stintz still plans to remain as member of the TTC board.

It is expected either councillor Josh Colle or Maria Augimeri will take up the position. Both belong to the transit commission.

City council will vote for her replacement at its February 19 and 20th council meeting.
