SASKATOON – Police in Saskatchewan are once again turning their focus onto impaired driving during the holiday season.

December’s Operation Overdrive is a high profile program aimed at discouraging motorists from drunk driving.

With the holiday season well underway, law enforcement across the province is paying extra attention to impaired driving during the month-long traffic blitz.

So far, over 440 motorists have been checked for signs of impaired driving in Saskatoon alone.

Roadside check stops have resulted in 42 suspensions and 19 impaired driving charges in the Bridge City to date.

According to SGI’s preliminary statistics, one person was killed and 46 others were injured in 111 impaired driving collisions during the month of December, 2012 in the province.

SGI and its law enforcement partners are reminding motorists to always plan a safe ride home, choose a designated driver, take a cab and/or take the bus.

During last December’s Operation Overdrive, police issued over 2,400 tickets, including 217 for impaired driving.
