Northeast residents complain snow plows have arrived too late

CALGARY- They’ve been stuck in their homes, and seen their vehicles buried in drifts throughout their snow-clogged community. But finally, relief is on the way for those living in the northeast community of Skyview Ranch.

City snow plows have now moved to priority two routes, meaning they can focus on clearing residential streets now that main roads have been done.

However, residents are upset it’s taken this long to clear the roads, which turned a 30 minute commute into a two hour trek.

“I can’t even get out of Skyview, and I’m later for work again,” one woman complained. “This is ridiculous.”

A UPS driver said his vehicle has gotten stuck at least two or three times a day since the storm hit, making it tough to do business.

The city says it’s taken them until now to get to the community, because they are sticking to a snow plan which means residential streets aren’t cleared until day four of a storm.

“These are very infrequent types of storms, and we have to adjust our plans to be able to deal with these situations,” explains city roads maintenance manager Bill Biensch.
