Public visitation held for Toronto police officer John Zivcic, memorial on Monday

A public visitation was held today for Const. John Zivcic, a Toronto police officer who was killed in a tragic car accident while on-duty last weekend.

Zivcic, 34, was responding to a call last Saturday when his unmarked cruiser collided with another car at Bloor Street West and Neilson Drive, near Highway 427.

The officer was rushed to St. Michael’s Hospital and underwent several emergency surgeries, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries Monday afternoon.

Zivcic, who was with the police force for six years, has been described as a well-respected, hardworking police officer.

He is survived by mother, brother, sister, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law.

“I want to express our thanks to John for his tremendous service to this city. He died in the line of duty doing his job responding to an emergency call, trying to keep the public safe. It’s a sad day for all of us,” Sloly said.
