Calgary’s big chill is causing big problems for a non-profit agency that helps women who have been sexually exploited transition from the streets, back into the community.
On Wednesday, a pipe burst on the upper floor of a building occupied by the Servants Anonymous Society, flooding offices and a boardroom below.
The boardroom, unofficially known as “Santa’s Workshop”, was storing donations of Christmas toys , gifts and wrapping paper that the agency had been collecting throughout the year.

The toys and gifts were to be distributed at the agency’s annual Christmas celebration for its clients and their children.
Former client April Jensen says she is heartbroken by the news.
“When I was out in active addiction I felt like nothing – I wasn’t a mother, I wasn’t anything, living day to day to come here and having Christmas celebrations for us – it was really beautiful.”
Servants Anonymous is appealing for donations of cash, unwrapped toys and gift paper, so families won’t be disappointed. The agency is also looking for volunteers.
