‘Catching Fire’ continues to dominate box office

TORONTO — In its second weekend, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire continued to burn up the box office, raking in an estimated $74.5 million.

It was enough to keep the movie, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, in the No. 1 spot. It has earned $296.5 million in the U.S. and Canada since its Nov. 22 debut.

Worldwide, Catching Fire has made more than $573 million.

The first Hunger Games grossed $691 million.

In its second weekend in wide release, the animated musical comedy Frozen made $66.7 million, bringing its total to $93.3 million domestically.

Thor: The Dark World, starring Chris Hemsworth, was third with $11 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $591 million.

The Best Man Holiday, which was filmed in Toronto last summer, earned $8.5 million in its third weekend to bring its total to $63 million. The 1999 original made $34 million.

Homefront, starring Jason Statham and James Franco, opened in fifth place with nearly $7 million.
