Arts and culture go hand in hand. Culture is incomplete without music or the visual arts, while art conveys the spirit and identity of a people and their culture. Immerse yourself in the sounds and sights of arts and culture from Taiwan, Indonesia, and Malaysia at TAIWANfest as we return to Vancouver this September 3 to 5 to hear, taste, and see the Stories of Independence. Drawing from their Indigenous roots and fusing it with new genres in their music, the four multi-talented musicians of Kanatal, an Indigenous music group from Taiwan, present their musical showcase Peace for all to hear. Sail on to SILATURAHMI, an exhibit where you are whisked away to the Taiwanese port of Tangkáng and its vibrant community of Indonesian migrant fishers, seeing how this community builds solidarity and forges new connections while working for a better life far from home. Sit back for films at Cinematic Taiwan and watch a Montreal man return to his homeland of Malaysia to fight for an environmentalist cause in A Time to Swim, or see how the memory of political suppression lingers in the Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung in Taste of Wild Tomato. Join us at TAIWANfest from September 3 to 5! For more details, visit https://vancouvertaiwanfest.ca/.
