ARBOR WEEK KICKOFF – Thursday, May 19th @1:00pm. A planting ceremony will be held at the Ukrainian Museum dedicated to the Ukrainian Community. Trees represent peace, hope and life – something Ukrainians long for at this time. A representative from City council will be in attendance. Students, the Open Door Society, the media and the general public are all invited.
QR CODE TREE WALK – Saturday, May 21st to 29th. The QR Code Interpretive Walk is a guided audio nature walk which teaches the audience about specific trees living in Saskatoon and what they contribute to our urban ecosystems. This event will be in two park locations: Silverspring Park (710 Konihowski Road) and Victoria Park (corner of 16th Street West and Avenue H South). Fun for families and friends in small groups. This event will be up for the entire Arbor Week.
COMMUNITY TREE PLANTING – FOOD FOREST – Sunday, May 29th @1:00pm. SOS Trees has partnered with a local community garden, Sunnyside Care Home, the City of Saskatoon and the Saskatoon Nature Society to plant fruit trees. This initiative will be a model connecting vulnerable populations with access to safe, sufficient and nutritious food that improves their food security in a sustainable manner. This planting will also encourage bird populations in the area with a variety of bird friendly tree and shrub species. Volunteers can take part in order to learn more about tree planting and the benefits of trees for the community.
