Department of Sociology’s Kennedy Lecture in Global Social Issues introduces the Trent and broader communities to exemplary scholars and leaders engaged in issues of social justice that have global dimensions. The inaugural lecture will be delivered by Dr. Jeremy Youde, Dean, College of Liberal Arts, University of Minnesota Duluth.

About the talk
In just over a year, COVID-19 has gone from completely unknown to dramatically altering the global landscape. There is much that we still do not know about the virus, but we are starting to see some important truths come to light as we examine how various governments have responded. In particular, we are learning that the global health system is both doing better and doing worse than we imagined; that COVID risk isn’t equal across all groups; that the cliche about viruses not respecting borders may not be as true as we thought; and that finding a vaccine will not be enough.
