Join us for Mennonite Heritage Village’s Russlaender Tribute Fundraising Banquet on Saturday, May 25, 2019. The afternoon will begin with the Grand Opening and Curator tours of our 2019 exhibit “The Russlaender.” This will be followed by a special service in the Lichtenau Church (the first church established by the 1920s Mennonites in Canada and located on the museum’s grounds) to commemorate the historic migration of Mennonites from the Soviet Union to Canada. The fundraising banquet in the evening will feature speakers, artefacts, and music focused on the experience of the Russlaender Mennonites. (See below for full program.) All the funds raised at this event will go toward MHV’s fundraising campaign to raise $115,000 to replace the 30-year old roof on the Village Centre, the museum’s main building. The roof is leaking and is in urgent need of replacement. The museum holds a collection of 16,500 artefacts in trust for the community and the vast majority of this collection is housed in storage or on display inside the Village Centre. The leaking roof puts this priceless collection in an extremely vulnerable position. You can read more about the situation here: https://mennoniteheritagevillage.com/a-bucket-for-every-leak/ Help us raise a new roof for the Village Centre!
