International Humanitarian Law (IHL) limits and prevents human suffering in armed conflicts. Women and children are the most vulnerable in war and are provided special protections under IHL. Despite this, women still face problems such as sexual violence and risks to their health. Children continue to be recruited as fighters, separated from families, killed, abused and exploited in other ways. Join us as we examine these challenges and potential solutions. Conference sessions include an introduction to international humanitarian law, discussion of firsthand impacts of armed conflicts on women and children, as well as longer-term effects during resettlement. This conference will bring together experts from the field, including academics, representatives from the Red Cross Movement, and practitioners in the refugee settlement sector. The event organized by the Canadian Red Cross is made possible thanks to support from Global Affairs Canada. Free to register.
