Twenty years in the business! They must be doing something right. This year sees the ever popular Tiller’s Folly celebrating their 20th anniversary as a band with a special concert and a DVD of the event to commemorate the occasion. As one of the tightest and most focused folk bands in the nation, Tiller’s Folly continues to make music that is both distinctly Canadian and firmly rooted in the acoustic tradition. Based in the Pacific Northwest, Tiller’s Folly are a critically acclaimed, internationally traveled power trio at the forefront of a bold new movement in roots music. For the past twenty years, through thousands of performances stretching from the Pacific North-west to The Carolinas and across to the British Isles and beyond – they have spread their memorable blend of energy, history, musicality, romance and just plain fun from small and large halls to theaters and festivals. 2017, our sesquicentennial year, saw the birth of a new project for Tiller’s Folly and some friends. The Great Canadian Songbook is a show headlining Ken Lavigne and Diyet as well as the talented lads of Tiller’s Folly in a show featuring some of Canada’s most cherished and identifiable music. The concert (and the album of the same name) takes you on a journey through the heritage of songs that are our national treasure. Tiller’s award winning productions continue to expand and refine their potent mix of acoustic & electric based, Celtic influenced Canadiana, Americana, Newgrass ‘and beyond.’ The accomplished members of Tiller’s Folly each boast an impressive resume of their own. BRUCE COUGHLAN – songwriter, vocals, guitar As principle songwriter and vocalist for Tiller’s Folly, Bruce has navigated the band through a long succession of subtle, yet defining changes. From performers of Celtic music to interpreters of the genre, into an influential entity in the course of progressive Canadiana music. With a growing list of commissioned works and soundtrack credits, this composer/lyricist is a creative force of rare ability and will go down as one of our country’s great songsmiths. NOLAN MURRAY – fiddle, mandolin, mandocaster Nolan has a long history as a multi-instrumentalist gun-for-hire who at an early age, parlayed an impressive list of championships (including Top Ten US Grand Master Fiddle) into a touring/recording career that has spanned decades. Throughout that time, he’s left his musical imprint with a long list of iconic performers including Loretta Lynn, Brenda Lee, John Fogerty, The Irish Rovers, Randy Travis, John Cowan, Ricky Van Shelton, David Frizzell, Patricia Conroy, Gary Fjellgaard, Jess Lee, Funk Brother’s Bob Babbitt, Wrecking Crew’s Larry Knechtel. LAURENCE KNIGHT – bass, vocals A forty-year veteran of Western Canada’s vibrant music scene who’s first love is Rhythm and Blues. Early in his career, Laurence earned a solid reputation in Vancouver’s Blues music scene, touring and recording with the Foreman Young Band, Jim Byrnes and the legendary Long John Baldry, just to mention a few. In a shift from R&B to Folk music Laurence once again found his stride while performing and recording with many of the West’s most iconic artists, including Roy Forbes, Shari Ulrich and Ferron. Get your toe tapping shoes on and join us for this special evening. This show will go ahead rain or shine as there is a large covered area. $25 tickets are available at ABC Hobby in Dilworth Centre in Kelowna, at Mad Hatter Bookstore in West Kelowna or online at lanternfolk.ca or call 250-999-1965 for more info.
