Anne McElroy – A TRIBUTE – Art Placement is pleased to host an exhibition honouring the life work of Saskatoon artist, Anne McElroy (1947-2024).  Organized by Lorenzo Dupuis and Clink Hunker, gallery artists and friends of Anne, the selection of works is a tribute to Anne’s life in art.

ANNE MCELROY – This exhibition a celebration of the painting and drawings of Anne McElroy who passed away on December 21, 2024.  It is a recognition of her creative spirit, her curiosity and her enthusiasm with experimentation as an artist.  Her work spans many decades, always remaining true to her fascination with colour, calligraphic strokes, her love of the formal aspects of painting and preference for abstraction.  Anne often integrated jazz as a direct stimulus while creating these strokes, spaces and movement.  Anne began her art learning with community-based classes.  Her spirit pushed her to the university where she received a B.F.A. from the University of Saskatchewan followed by an M.F.A. in 1990.  Her preference for nonobjective work developed early in her career, gravitating towards the approaches and philosophies or artists such as Alicia Popoff, Otto Rogers, Stan Day, and particularly Eli Bornstein.  She became a teacher at the university art department as well as working through extension services.  She also acted as a mentor in the CARFAC mentorship program and conducted workshops throughout Western Canada.
