Dr. Samir Gupta
Dr. Samir Gupta brings his medical experience and wealth of knowledge to Global News as a medical contributor and host of On Call with Dr. Gupta.
Dr. Gupta is an associate scientist in the Keenan Research Centre of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s Hospital, and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and the Division of Respirology at St. Michael’s Hospital and the University of Toronto.
When not practicing respirology or teaching, Dr. Gupta can be found conducting research in knowledge translation, e-health Innovation, and asthma. His other area of research is rare lung diseases, where he is an international expert in a disease called the hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS).
Dr. Gupta also participates in a number of medical advisory boards including as the vice-chair of the Canadian Respiratory Guidelines Committee for the Canadian Thoracic Society, as a steering committee member for the Ontario Lung Association and Ontario Thoracic SocietyProvider Education Program, and on an expert advisory panel for Health Quality Ontario.
Dr. Gupta received his medical degree from McGill University and his Masters in Clinical Epidemiology from the Department of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation in the School of Graduate Studies, at the University of Toronto,. An award-winning medical professional, Dr. Gupta has received over a dozen awards for his medical research and contributions.
In his spare time, Dr. Gupta can be found weight lifting or running, and does not miss an opportunity to dance. Along with his wife, Dr. Gupta also recently founded a volunteer medical camp in rural India.
