Reel Girl Talk presents Dear White PeoplePre-Show Fun: 6:00 PM Film: 6:30 PM Panel: 8:30 PM Tickets: $15 In honour of Black History Month, we’re hosting an extra MUFF screening in February! On February 22, Reel Girl Talk (MUFF’s discussion-based spinoff series) will present Dear White People. This 2014 satire follows Sam, a film student (played by the amazing Tessa Thompson) who, along with a few of her peers, goes up against the racist traditions and structures of her Ivy League school through a variety of mediums and platforms. While the film is most definitely a general blast, it’s also an important watch, as it openly discusses race, gender, and sexuality and how they all intersect. What’s more, it was produced by a number of remarkable women of colour, including Stephanie Allain, Effie T. Brown, Lena Waithe and Mel Jones. (Oh, and ICYMI, the film has been adapted for Netflix and the series is set to come out this April, with its World Premiere being held at SXSW in March.) Before the screening, join us in the lobby of the Imagine Cinemas Carlton for the usual MUFF pre-show fun, including the traditional photobooth and themed #MUFFMix. And following the film, stick around for the “Talk” portion of the night: a critical discussion between The Great Black North co-host Devon MD Jones and filmmaker Alicia Harris, who will share their opinions of the film as well as how the black female experience is portrayed on screens small and big. To learn more about Devon: https://www.devonmdjones.com/ To learn more about Alicia: http://www.aliciakharris.com/ Big thank you to our Community Partners on this screening (Reel Girls Toronto and Black Women Film - Canada). Be sure to check back closer to the event for more announcements, including additional partners, sponsors, and details.FestivalFeb 22

NIED’s 56th Free Eating Disorder SymposiumThe National Initiative for Eating Disorders' 56th Free Eating Disorder Symposium TOPIC: "Let's Get Social: Social Media, Social Justice, and Social Support for Eating Disorders" This free symposium focuses on intersections between social justice, social media, and eating disorders. In the symposium, we will look at how to situate eating disorder prevention, research, treatment, and recovery within a social context. We will also explore the ins and outs of using social media to talk about eating disorders — the good, the bad, and the just-plain-confusing. The symposium will include a presentation by Andrea LaMarre (MSc, PhD Candidate) and plenty of time for discussion. We will answer questions like: -What does social justice have to do with eating disorders? -How can taking a social justice approach help reduce stereotypes, stigma, and barriers to access around eating disorder prevention, treatment, and research? -What is the role of social media in eating disorder prevention, treatment, research, and recovery? -How can social media for eating disorders be more representative and be used for social justice aims?OtherMar 21

Bowling for Boxers -fund raising event -Boxer Rescue OntarioMy name is Laura Fyfe and I am the Director of Fundraising for Boxer Rescue Ontario. We are a charitable, non-profit organization comprising of over 250 volunteers in the province, dedicated to placing abandoned, surrendered, injured and even lost dogs in loving homes throughout Ontario. We are a fully registered charitable organization, which has been operating since the year 2000. We work with many other rescue groups, shelters, veterinarians, breeders and the public to promote responsible pet ownership in and around Ontario. Over this span, I have witnessed many atrocities that should never happen to any animal. Each dog that comes in through our doors is vetted and assessed before being placed up for adoption. Vetting is a very expensive component of rescue. Each dog averages anywhere from $400.00 up to $1,500.00 in veterinarian bills. 100% of the funds we raise at this event will go towards the vetting and care of the boxers.OtherMay 7
