After months of public debate over proposals on how to make a future LRT track work on Edmonton's Stony Plain Road, the city's urban planning committee approved a final concept plan for the project on Tuesday.

Irene Blain, civic director of the West Jasper Sherwood Community League, said the shaft was capped last summer but before then the odour and smells took a toll on residents.

Residents in a west Edmonton neighbourhood are calling on the city to do something about the smell coming from a nearby sewer construction site they say is so bad it wakes them up at night.
