A 71-year-old Edmonton grandpa has taken it upon himself to volunteer as a crossing guard on a busy road after his grandchildren said they were afraid to cross.

Debbie Bryson has been campaigning for safer street crossings since her eldest daughter was killed as she tried to cross the street last October in Surrey.

This is the time of year that can be most dangerous for motorists and pedestrians alike. Poorly lit streets in poor visibility due to weather coupled with pedestrians dressed in dark clothing make for an accident waiting to happen. That's one reason the community of Delta is leading the way with high tech crossings.
