3 due in court after shale gas protest in Moncton

MONCTON – Three people arrested in connection with a shale gas protest in Moncton are due in court Tuesday.

RCMP responded to a compound at a local industrial park Monday used by SWN Resources to store equipment.

A man and two women were taken into custody after they allegedly refused to leave the area.

SWN Resources has been doing exploration work in the province.

Last week, the company was granted an injunction that places restrictions intended to prevent people from interfering with its work.

An anti-shale gas protest near Rexton turned violent last month when police enforced an injunction to halt the blockade of another compound.

Forty people were arrested and six police vehicles burned.
