EDMONTON – Edmonton police are investigating an attempted break and enter Monday morning that resulted in a dog being shot.

According to police, someone tried to break into a home in the area of 98 Avenue and and 187 Street just after 2 a.m. The perpetrator was confronted by a resident of the home. A fight broke out, during which a dog was shot in the head.

The dog, which Edmonton Police believe to be a Pitbull, was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic in critical condition.

Police are searching for a male suspect.

A search warrant was obtained for the home for narcotics.

Two residents of the home were detained for questioning.
