A warning to pets and young children after outbreak of poisonous mushrooms in Victoria

City officials in Victoria are asking people to keep a close eye on their pets and young children, with an outbreak of poisonous mushrooms in several public parks.

Galerina Mushrooms have been spotted at 10 spots around the capital, and were most recently discovered at Wesley Park.

Experts say the species grows naturally all over the island, but Galerinas are among the most toxic.

Crews have been busy clearing affected areas, and say warmer weather conditions have helped to foster their growth.

The mushrooms have also been found at the following parks:

Fisherman’s
Todd
Jackson
Hillside
Topaz
Sumas
Balfour
Raynor
Barnard
