TORONTO – Sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch have reached 800,000 since its debut two months ago, making it the most popular smartwatch in the world, the company says in a report from Reuters.
The South Korea-based company told Reuters in a report published Tuesday that sales of the smartwatch exceeded expectations, prompting it to expand sales promotions for the device for the holiday season.

When Samsung unveiled the highly-anticipated smartwatch in September, experts were skeptical of how the device would be with consumers mainly due to the fact that Galaxy Gear was only compatible with two of Samsung’s devices when it was launched.
But Samsung has since been working to make more devices compatible with the wearable smartphone accessory.
“It’s the most sold wearable watch available in the market place…and we plan to expand its availability by expanding mobile devices that work with the Gear,” Samsung said in a statement to Reuters.
