REGINA – It’s the hottest ticket in town now that the Saskatchewan Roughriders punched theirs to the 101st Grey Cup.
“I wouldn’t part with my Grey Cup tickets for a million bucks,” said one fan.
“How often do they get in the Grey Cup, especially in our hometown? I’m not giving our our tickets.”
There are options for a last-minute buy.
Single seats were still up for grabs on Ticketmaster Monday afternoon, and the re-sale market has no shortage, though several are marked up to over $1,000 per seat.
Many of those seeking tickets may be priced out.
“(I’d pay) $300, maybe,” said a Riders fan.
At that price, some ads might be too good to be true.
One would-be ticket buyer nearly found that out firsthand, with a chance at mid-field Grey Cup seats offered well-below face value.
Then, there were red flags.
“I asked him to send me a closeup of the seat number, the row, the section,” said Chris Knoop. “He said he couldn’t.”
Knoop says the seller also refused to meet face-to-face.
Grey Cup organizers say it stands as a warning.
“Unfortunately in a frenzy like this, sometimes people try to take advantage of it,” said Dave Pettigrew, Grey Cup Festival Committee chairperson. “Make sure you’re careful buying tickets online and make sure it’s a reputable source.”
Online sales can’t be stopped, however. But a lack of tickets could mean a warmer option.
“I’m going to be staying home with a 60 inch TV, watching in my nice warm house.”
