Edmonton – The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has identified a suspect wanted in connection with the theft of a poppy fund box from a grocery store in Bonnie Doon Mall.
On the afternoon of Monday, November 4, the grocery store reported their poppy donation box was missing.
Police say after reviewing surveillance video, it appears a man stole the donation container from the customer service till.
Police are in the process of locating the suspect.
Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
This wasn’t the only incident of a poppy fund being stolen in Edmonton. On October 27, a container filled with donations raised from selling poppies was taken from a northeast Edmonton convenience store.
Last year, police say there were 14 poppy fund thefts in Edmonton. According to EPS, a person involved in all 14 thefts was caught and charged.
Money collected from selling poppies goes to support Canada’s war veterans.
