A campaign has begun to save one part of the legacy of a legendary Vancouver broadcaster.
76-year-old Red Robinson introduced both the Beatles and Elvis onto Vancouver stages and has been a fixture on Vancouver radio for six decades.
His name has also been prominently displayed on the Coquitlam theatre that was named after him back in 2006.
But the owners of the theatre, the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation, plan to re-name the theatre and nearby casino with the Hard Rock brand.
Prominent B.C. entertainment personalities are protesting, but the company says Robinson is well aware of the change.
“We have been talking to Red about this decision,” says company executive director Chuck Keeling. “Red is a stand up gentleman. It is part of his reputation. Part of his history. And he was in this instance.”
“We are not ending the relationship with Red,” says Keeling. “We are changing it.”
Robinson’s memorabilia that he has collected for decades will stay in the theatre.
