Three collisions in 72 hours at CTrain level crossings have police and Calgary Transit urging drivers to be more careful.
Calgary Transit says in each case, the driver ran a red light.
The latest collision happened Monday morning downtown at 7th Avenue and 3rd Street S.W.
The driver of the vehicle wasn’t seriously hurt.
On Friday there were two crashes, both at 9th Street and 4th Avenue S.W.
Calgary Transit Director Doug Morgan says while collisions can lead to major delays for road traffic and train service, the biggest concern is the safety of CTrain drivers and passengers.
“When these collisions happen drivers have to slam on the brakes of the train- that can throw people around- and the operators are traumatized. So we’re really concerned about people’s attentiveness to the traffic signals and making sure they are paying attention.”
Morgan says one answer is increased enforcement.
“We are working with the Police Service to partner and look at each of these crossings, and if there’s some enforcement that needs to happen to make sure these people aren’t running the red lights.”
