Edmonton – Two weeks after fire tore through the building, an inner city soup kitchen was burning again Friday morning.
The latest fire broke out at the House of Refuge Mission shortly before 5 a.m.
About 30 firefighters were called to the scene at 103 Avenue and 95 Street to battle the blaze.
Firefighters were concerned about overhead power lines as well as a neighbouring building.
“There was a fire here previously, a few weeks ago, and as a result of that there was lots of debris left behind. At this time it’s unknown why the debris wasn’t taken away apparently the fire started in the debris again,” says District Chief John Bower, Edmonton Fire.
It’s the responsibility of the owner or insurance company to clear the debris.
No one was injured in the fire.
The cause is being investigated, but police suspect it is a case of arson.
The fire from two weeks earlier at the House of Refuge Mission is not considered to be suspicious.
Friday morning’s blaze did affecting traffic in the area. 103 A Avenue between 92 Street and 95 Street and 95 Street between 103 Avenue and 104 Avenue were closed for several hours.
