NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask. – A Saskatchewan craftsman is presenting a royal baby toy to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s newborn son.
Geordie Smith, a craftsman from North Battleford, Sask., presented a “royal baby rattle” to Mayor Ian Hamilton Wednesday to be sent to England as a gift for Prince George.
“I would like to believe this rattle will be Prince George’s favourite toy,” said Hamilton.
This is the second time Smith has offered a wooden rattle to a newborn prince.
While Smith was attending college in Brockville, Ont., in 1982, Prince Charles and Princess Diana gave birth to their first son, William.
Smith created a baby rattle and had Brockville’s mayor sent it to Prince William. At the time, the city was celebrating its 150th anniversary.
In 1982, a letter was sent on behalf of the Prince and Princess of Wales to Smith thanking him for the Ontario cherry wood rattle.
This year, he’s crafted another royal toy to be sent to Prince William and Princess Katherine’s newborn son.
North Battleford is celebrating its centennial this year.
