One of the founders of Greenpeace is now protesting against the environmental organization in North Vancouver for its stance on genetically-modified rice.
Activist Patrick Moore is holding a demonstration Friday at Greenpeace’s iconic Rainbow Warrior, during the ship’s first stop in B.C.
The group’s ship is docked at the Burrard Dry Dock Pier for public tours Friday and Saturday. The ship will leave for Victoria on Oct. 18.
Moore is protesting Greenpeace’s opposition to Golden Rice, a genetically modified food.
Millions of children who consume a starch-rich diet die every year from a lack of beta carotene, but Moore says Golden Rice has the nutritional value to save lives.
However, Greenpeace has concerns that the rice might create other health risks.
Greenpeace says vitamin A deficiency should be fought with supplements, fortification of food and dietary diversification.
