Birthday cake attacked at Washington state courthouse

TORONTO – A 50-year-old U.S. man found out the hard way you truly can’t have your cake and eat it too — especially if it’s a complete stranger’s birthday cake.

Michelle Flavin brought her child’s birthday cake into a Washington state courthouse on Tuesday, thinking it would be safer than leaving it in the car with her dog. She realized her error when a stranger grabbed and ate handfuls of the cake.

Cake and frosting flew when a Cowlitz County sheriff’s deputy grabbed the cake molester and took him to the ground. The Daily News of Longview says more deputies rushed to help, only to end up smeared with frosting.

Police said Robert Eric Fredrickson, who was in the courthouse on an indecent exposure charge, was passing through a security checkpoint when he saw the chocolate cake sitting on a table and plunged his hand into it.

An officer asked Fredrickson to stop but the dessert-eater lunged for the cake again, The Daily News reported.

Flavin said she was at the courthouse to assist her sister with a legal matter and the cake was for her daughter’s birthday.

“I got pissed when he stuck his hand in it the first time,” Flavin told the newspaper. “I was like, ‘Hey!'”

Her sister added: “Then he went back for seconds!”

Fredrickson was arrested on theft charges.
