The Pembina Valley Humane Society in Morden, Man., already has a tough time making ends meet. Things will be even tighter after staff found 17 cats and kitties abandoned on their doorstep on Sept. 26.
“We discovered that many of those cats were very ill with upper respiratory viruses,” said Kathy Gyoerick from the Pembina Valley Humane Society. “Unfortunately, two of those kittens passed away within 24 hours.”
The felines were dropped off at the humane society while they were closed. The facility’s security cameras captured people leaving the cats in a dog crate, in the rain. Gyoerick said,
“The animals were outside for a couple of hours and we think we would’ve lost more than the two that did pass away, had they been any longer in those condition.”
Some of the cats were in such rough shape, the organization is considering handing the footage over to the authorities.
With the new additions, the “no kill” shelter is looking for donations to help provide proper care.
