A man is dead and others injured after a chain-reaction crash in Maple Ridge Friday night.
Mounties say 41-year-old Chad Philip Hallworth of Maple Ridge was struck by a car in a dark section of road in the 23900-block of Lougheed Highway at around 8:30 p.m.
After Hallworth was hit, a truck collided with a car that was braking for the incident, injuring an unknown number of occupants in the car.
The driver of the car that hit the pedestrian was also taken to hospital, but Mounties said all injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.
Officials said emergency crews tried to save Hallworth, but he was pronounced dead in hospital.
“The crash occurred in a very dark area of the Lougheed Highway. It was not raining at the time, but roads were wet and slippery,” said Sgt. Dale Somerville.
The highway was closed to west-bound traffic Friday night as officials investigated the incident.
