TORONTO – Actress Kellie Martin, best known for her run on ER and the Lifetime series Army Wives, starts work Tuesday on a TV movie in Ontario.
Martin is starring in, and executive producer of, Dear Viola.
The 37-year-old actress will play a small town newspaper’s accountant who takes over its advice column and becomes popular with the locals.
In the process, she falls in love with a man who recently lost his wife.
The movie will air on UP, a Christian cable network in the U.S.
Dear Viola will be directed by Toronto-born Laurie Lynd (Queer As Folk, Degrassi: The Next Generation) and filmed in Cobourg, Ont. until Oct. 4.
The town, located about an hour east of Toronto, recently hosted 10 days of production on Rocky Road, another TV movie for UP starring Mark Salling (Glee), Robin Duke (SNL) and Canadian actors Scott Thompson (Hannibal), Nicholas Campbell (DaVinci’s Inquest), Becky Dalton (L.A. Complex) and Steve Byers (Falcon Beach).
“Canada is charming,” Salling, 31, tweeted on Sept. 15. “It has cutesie decorative shiz in parks and such where in the US things are mostly functional or commercial.”
