RCMP appeal for possible witness to come forward after deadly motorcycle accident

A teenage girl is dead after she, and two other teenagers, were hit by a motorcycle outside Princess Margaret School in Surrey on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash occurred at about 11:25 a.m. near 128 Street and 68th Avenue.

RCMP announced Thursday they are looking for a specific witness in the crash, who was passed by motorcyclist before the collision. Police say the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on 128th Street in the slow lane when it changed lanes around another vehicle of an unknown make, model and colour. Police are hoping the driver of the vehicles comes forward as they are an important witness.

There are no marked crosswalks in the area and students often jaywalk to get to nearby businesses on the other side. The nearest controlled intersections are two blocks apart.

Residents who live here have been asking for a marked intersection for years.

“I’ve been here so many times, crossing the road,” said one student in tears. “You think that that this could be you as well.”

The two other students and the motorcycle rider are still in hospital. After the crash, debris was strewn across the road and police had the area closed for hours while they investigated. The school was also placed on lock-down for some time to keep the students inside.

Tributes have begun to pour in on social media for the student who died, but police have not identified her at this time.

Counsellors will be at the school this morning to help students cope with the accident.
