TORONTO – The father of Jeffrey Baldwin is set to testify today at a coroner’s inquest into five-year-old boy’s starvation death at the hands of his grandparents.
The inquest has heard that Richard Baldwin and Yvonne Kidman lost control of Jeffrey to Kidman’s parents in 1998.
It heard Tuesday that while the boy withered away his aunt – who lived in the home – didn’t notice his alarming condition because she says she “didn’t pay that much attention.”
Tammy Kidman testified that she believed her mother – Jeffrey’s grandmother – when she said doctors had checked Jeffrey out and pronounced him healthy.
When Jeffrey died of complications of chronic starvation in 2002, he weighed 21 pounds – about the same as he did on his first birthday.
His grandparents Elva Bottineau and Norman Kidman were ultimately convicted of second-degree murder in his death and are serving life sentences.
