SASKATOON – Premier Brad Wall has made a minor cabinet shuffle.
The move was due to Russ Marchuk advising Wall earlier in the week he wanted to continue to work on the education file but not as minister, a move Wall respected.
“I have not met anyone who is more dedicated to students and their education than Russ Marchuk,” said Wall.
“Russ told me he wants to play a role, just not the lead role. “
Marchuck says while he supports the direction the government is taking, he said he was not able to meet the demands of the position.
“Our government’s education agenda is entering a crucial period that will require significant resources that I feel I am not able to provide at this time,” said Marchuck.
Marchuk has been appointed the legislative secretary to the new Minister of Education, Don Morgan.
“Education is a high priority for our government and Don Morgan brings a proven track record not only as an experienced minister in our government, but also as a member and former Chair of the Saskatoon Public School Board,” said Wall.
Morgan will continue to serve as Minister of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety.
Also back in cabinet is Rob Norris as Minister of Advanced Education, a portfolio he has previously held.
