The International Olympic Committee has selected Tokyo as the host city for the 2020 Olympics.
In a 63-30 decision by the IOC Tokyo beat out Istanbul to host the 2020 summer games, despite concerns about the lingering effects of the Fukushima nuclear crisis.
Madrid, who was also in the running as a host city, was eliminated earlier Saturday afternoon after an initial tie with Istanbul.
Cheers rang out across Tokyo as thousands celebrated the city’s successful bid to host the 2020 games.
