Police impersonator stops cars on highway

PRITCHARD, B.C. – Mounties are warning drivers in the B.C. interior community of Pritchard about a man who is pretending to be a police officer.

Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says two people have reported being pulled over on Highway 1 by a man who drove a car with a flashing red and blue strobe light and identified himself as a police officer conducting traffic stops.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Moskaluk says that in the first instance last week, the man stopped a car, shone a flashlight into the motorist’s face and swore and yelled as he asked for a driver’s licence.

Several hours later, he pulled over another driver, saying the car matched a vehicle involved in some situation and asked for the driver’s licence and insurance documents.

Both drivers got their licences returned to them and reported similar descriptions of the man’s car to the RCMP.
