Cyclist critically injured after being struck by a car in Surrey

A man has been critically injured after he was hit while riding his bike in Surrey Saturday night.

Police said the man was riding his bike on 176 Street near 96^th Avenue at around 9 p.m. when he was struck trying to cross the highway.

The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He was not wearing a helmet and did not have any lights on his bike.

Police said he was wearing dark clothing and trying to cross a dark section of road.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. No charges are expected to be laid.

Police said the victim may have been drinking.
