TORONTO – It won’t be as glamorous as the Cannes International Film Festival, and the red carpet is likely to get scratched up, but thousands are expected to attend the second annual Internet Cat Video Festival.
The festival kicks off Thursday at the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand and will feature a 70-minute reel of Internet cat videos, celebrity cats and video creators.
Presented by The Walker Art Center, an internationally known modern art museum, the festival attracted over 10,000 people in its kickoff year and has spawned similar festivals in North America.
Last year, questions were raised about the decidedly not elite choice of venue.
“My stock answer is, I don’t care,” Scott Stulen, event producer and a project director for mnartists.org at the Walker, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
“Last year we were afraid of how it would be perceived by the art world. But the response has been overwhelmingly positive.”
