WINNIPEG — Hundreds of bottles of water were handed out to the city’s less fortunate to help beat the heat on Sunday.

The founder of Devoted to You Street Ministries has been handing out 800 to 1,000 bottles of water a day during this heat wave.

Ron Eldridge heads out in the evenings during the week and during the hottest time of the day on the weekend to help the homeless.

“We love helping the people out here, and they need it just as much as anybody else,” said Eldridge, “and to these people, a bottle of water is like gold to them.”

The province had issued a heat advisory for the weekend, warning everyone to stay hydrated and to find shade whenever possible.
