SASKATOON – Drivers and pedestrians are the target for Operation Crossroads, SGI’s traffic blitz in August.

On Aug. 21 and 22, police will be focusing on intersection safety, looking for motorists failing to yield to pedestrians or oncoming traffic and disobeying stop signs or traffic lights.

Police will also be looking for pedestrians who are jaywalking.

Last year, there were more than 11,000 collisions at intersections across the province, resulting in 33 deaths and nearly 4,000 injuries.

SGI says over 40 per of all collisions in the province take place at intersections.

Along with the blitz, a selective traffic enforcement program (STEP), a multi-agency traffic safety enforcement event, will take place in Regina.
