Police search for thieves who dumped crash victim’s ashes into street

CALGARY- A family is heartbroken after the ashes of their 19-year-old daughter were tossed into the wet street by thieves.

Police were called to 10 St. and Wapta Rise S.E. on August 2, for reports of car prowlings. A number of vehicles were targeted, including a white truck.

Inside that truck was a green velvet pouch, containing the ashes of a young woman who was killed in a crash over years ago. The contents were dumped onto the street.

Some of the ashes were recovered, but most were washed away by rain.

A jacket belonging to the deceased was also stolen.

“Who would do that? Who would take the ashes and dump them?” said mother Colleen Ransom, holding back tears. “I realize that they probably didn’t even know that they were my daughter’s ashes, but it’s sort of a violation.”
