Military retrieve explosive device from Kalamalka Lake

VERNON — A Canadian Military dive team has retrieved a mortar containing explosives in Kalamalka Lake.

The device has since been safely detonated at the Vernon Military Camp.

A four person dive team armed with a sonar device are heading back to the lake scouring for any other potential explosives.

A local diver discovered the device earlier this week.

Swimming is still allowed in the Vernon lake and military officials say the public is safe.
