A woman has died after falling from the Squamish Chief.
It happened between 4:30 and 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Squamish RCMP say it appears the woman was hiking in the area of the first peak of the Stawamus Chief when she fell.
Her body was found at the base of the first peak.
The woman is in her mid-to-late 30s, Caucasian, with medium build, blue eyes and short brown curly hair. She was wearing a light blue sports bra and green khaki shorts.
It’s believed she was hiking alone when she fell and she did not have identification on her at the time. Police do not yet know who she is.
They are looking for any witnesses who may have seen or heard anything before, during or after the incident.
Officers put flyers on cars in the parking lot Monday, hoping to determine if one of the vehicles belongs to the woman.
They say they will wait several days as there are lots of long-term campers in the area.
An RCMP helicopter tried to retrace the woman’s final steps from the air.
Squamish Search and Rescue says they typically receive sixty calls a year, half of those from inexperienced hikers lost on the Chief.
They recommend bringing good footwear, a map, water and an a compass.
