Woman survives 12 days in wilderness after alleged assault

File / Global News

RCMP have laid charges against a 36-year-old man in connection with the disappearance of a woman near Rocky Mountain House, earlier this month.

A 25-year-old woman went missing on July 14, near the north end of the O’Chiese First Nation Reserve.

Almost two weeks later, RCMP announced the young woman had been found alive and was recovering in hospital.

Officials say the woman was attacked, but managed to escape her attacker and survive on her own in the wilderness for 12 days despite being badly injured.

She eventually emerged from the bush, and is recovering with family and friends at her side.

RCMP have charged 36-year-old Kevin Roy Gladue of the O’Chiese First Nation with aggravated assault, sexual assault and obstructing a peace officer.
