Interstellar rodeo “exceeded expectations”

EDMONTON- The Interstellar Rodeo wrapped its second year Sunday.

The festival was held in Hawrelak Park and ran for three days. It has been sold out every day this weekend, with line-ups to enter the show extending out of the park and into the parkade. Organizers estimated that 3,500 people attended the event each night.

The show featured acts such as Alabama Shakes, Jim Cuddy, Steve Earle, and the Dukes, as well as food from some of Edmonton’s favourite food trucks. In an interesting twist, each artist was paired with a specific wine to enhance the performance.

“It has been amazing,” said Shauna de Cartier, one of the organizers of the festival. “It has exceeded all of our expectations.”

Although there was some suspect “summer” weather this weekend, the festival didn’t skip a beat.

“Edmontonians are tough,” de Cartier said. “They just braved the rain, partied on right through it. It was good times.”

She says the success of this year’s show has prompted organizers to consider expanding the festival next year.

“The park has a limited capacity, so we won’t be adding more people,” she said. “But maybe we will add another night, if I can find the right artist.”
