UPDATE: Wood Lake crash

Dan Couch/Global Okanagan

LAKE COUNTRY — Traffic on Highway 97 in Lake Country came to a standstill Thursday afternoon after a car and a large motorhome failed to merge properly, sending the RV into Wood Lake.

The incident happened shortly past 3 p.m. where south bound traffic merges from two lanes into one south of Oyama road.

The motorhome’s driver says instead of merging, a car cut him off, causing his Winnebago to careen across the oncoming lane, coming to rest partially in wood lake.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“What happened was an absolute miracle.  God showed up,” says driver Mark Morris.  “I was driving, heard a bang, I now understand that a girl had tried to pass us on the inside, went into the ditch, and got shot out of the ditch, and hit us straight on and pushed us right across the highway and we ended up hitting some trees and not going into the lake, and it’s an absolute miracle.”

There is no official word from police yet, however at least one person from the car was rushed to hospital.

There were no serious injuries to anyone in the motorhome.

Traffic was temporarily interrupted, but was flowing again in both directions in less than an hour.
