A 19-year-old B.C. woman is the latest North Okanagan resident sentenced in Saskatchewan in the aftermath of the province’s most significant drug roundup.
Vernon resident Shae Marjorie Jager was slated for a preliminary hearing Monday in Swift Current, but instead pleaded guilty to a single charge of extortion and was placed on 12 months probation after the Crown stayed a charge of conspiracy to traffic cocaine.
Jager’s co-accused, 34-year-old Dion Clowry of Lumby, B.C., is charged with conspiracy to traffic in cocaine but a warrant has now been issued for his arrest after he skipped a court date in March.
The case is part of the bust that led to the seizure of hundreds of kilograms of cocaine, 100,000 ecstasy tablets, and the arrests of 17 people in Canada and the United States.
The ringleader of the group, 26-year-old Brock Palfrey, was sentenced last year to nearly 18 years in prison for smuggling drugs worth tens of millions from California to Montana and into Canada.
The Crown is appealing Palfrey’s sentence, hoping to have it increased to 25 years behind bars.
