The Lighthouse opens new emergency shelter

SASKATOON – The Lighthouse Supported Living has opened a new stabilization emergency shelter for men and women struggling with addictions.

The 20-bed dormitory will accommodate homeless people struggling with substance abuse.

The facility will also provide intense support and connect people with more permanent housing possibilities.

“Typically pretty much all of our resources are overloaded we have waiting lists we have concerns with people just not having the capacity to provide for the demand we are hoping that’s part of what we are going to be able to provide,” Dennis Bueckert, director of client services.

Police say the new facility will help to reduce the number of people detained in cells by two to three thousand a year.
