DARTMOUTH, N.S. – Rogers is pulling its sponsorship of a Nova Scotia concert after a public outcry over organizers’ decision to have American R&B artist Chris Brown headline the show.
Angry Halifax residents protested over Twitter and Facebook when they heard the news.
Brown was convicted following a vicious assault in 2009 on his then-girlfriend, superstar Rihanna.
Brown is scheduled to play at Energy Rush 2013 on Aug. 31 at Alderney Landing in Dartmouth.
Trevor Romkey, a spokesman for the radio station Energy 103.5 responsible for hosting the event, says the show will go on as planned, including Brown’s performance.
An online petition registered Saturday morning and calling on the city to remove the artist from the concert lineup had 236 supporters as of 5 p.m. that day.
